Airstream Travel Trailers: Easy to Tow, Easy to Drive

Easy Towing

One of the things that has made Airstream travel trailers so famous over the years is their ease of towing. That starts at the bottom. Airstream’s designers do everything possible to keep the center of gravity of travel trailers low. Most travel trailer manufacturers build above the wheels; we build between the wheels, and that brings the floor down, the frame down, and lowers the center of gravity. To enhance that the tanks are located within the frame, so that big mass of water and center of weight is closest to the road.

So what does that mean? It means that in a lane change situation, especially an emergency lane change, the trailer is much less likely to fishtail. It will track behind the vehicle, and won’t keel over. Airstream uses rubber torsion axles rather than a spring suspension – not only are they more durable, but they provide a better, more stable ride.

And of course, aerodynamics – Airstream trailers are famous for that slippery shape that cuts through the wind, whether it’s a headwind or a side wind. Airstream trailers don’t get pushed around, so drivers can feel comfortable behind the wheel in any situation.
